Ayurvedic Eye Rejuvenation (Netra Basti)

“Netra” - eyes, “Basti” - cleansing action.

Netra Basti is a unique Ayurvedic treatment that restores the condition of the eyes and prevents eye degeneration. This treatment helps to unblock and restore the lacrimal ducts and protects the eyes from dryness, light exposure and other environmental conditions.

In a Netra Basti treatment, firstly the face, eye orbit and related acupressure points are massaged. Then a dough ring is placed around the eye orbit and is carefully filled with warm ghee (clarified butter). The lipid structure in ghee is similar to the body’s natural lubrication, making it especially nourishing for optic nerve tissues. The patient lays comfortably while the eye is bathed in the ghee, occasionally blinking to allow the ghee to moisturise and cleanse the eyes from dust, dirt and makeup residue. Each eye is treated separately within a ghee bath for up to 10 minutes and then cucumber rose eye masks are applied over the eyes for short time.

This treatment can reduce wrinkles and puffiness from around the eyes, restores the eyes natural lustre and enhances depth and perception of colour and can be surprisingly relaxing. It is important to note that as this treatment is a sensory-oriented therapy, it may temporarily alter/improve focus, revive visual memories or have psychological and emotional benefits, such as helping to bring clarity to that which has not been seen or realised emotionally or spiritually. As such it is advised to take quiet time away from bright lights and stressful stimulation after your treatment.

It is recommended that you arrange a driver to pick you up after your treatment, alternatively you will need to wait approximately 30minutes or until your eyesight has completely cleared before driving. After your treatment you will need to wear sunglasses to avoid sun and light exposure for at least 30minutes or more and reduce screen time for the remainder of the day.
