Nasya / Shirovirechana
Nasya also known as Shirovirechana is one of the Panchakarma therapies in Ayurveda which involves the administration of medicated oil, ghee, herbal extracts or powders into the nasal passages. Through the nasal passages medicines can be effectively delivered to the sinuses and upper respiratory tract to treat a range of ailments and eliminate excess Kapha (mucus). Nasya can be done as a therapeutic treatment by an Ayurvedic practitioner and or as a self maintenance treatment at home.
A nasya treatment at Ayurveda Oasis starts with an invigorating herbal oil scalp and chest massage, then the face is massaged with warm stones while an aromatic facial steam is given open the airways and loosen mucus. Warm towels are applied over the face and then a moderate dose of Anu Thailam (herbal nasal drops) is administered into each nostril and the cleansing process will begin, during which the patient may need to blow their nose, spit and cough to expel mucus. A second dose may be given if necessary.

Warm water or herbal tea is recommended.
You should not sleep within one-hour post-treatment.
Smoking should be avoided.
Take time to rest.
Avoid activities that may create coldness or heat in the body such as exercise or air-conditioned environments soon after your treatment.
Tongue scraping and good oral hygiene is recommended to support the action of Nasya
Contraindications: Nasya is NOT suitable for pregnant women, chronically fatigued people, elderly people or children.
